How and when your music appears on TikTok and Instagram
TikTok and Meta work differently from Spotify or Apple Music.
It’s not about streaming but about using music as a soundtrack for videos. And unlike other platforms, specific restrictions and a different display logic apply here.
How TikTok works and how Meta works
While on streaming platforms people play music deliberately to listen to it, on TikTok and Meta’s platforms content creators use it as a soundtrack for videos. Distribution to these platforms therefore works differently – and what you get also differs between Meta’s two separate services.
| Platform / channel | What it does |
|---|---|
| TikTok | Music enters a single shared feed – it serves as a soundtrack for creators’ videos in the app. TikTok does not separate “distribution” from the “content system”: Every distributed recording automatically enters this ecosystem. It is not possible to distribute “only to TikTok Music” without entering the content identification network (the equivalent of Facebook Fingerprinting described below). You set which section of the recording (15–60 s) TikTok offers in the recording form under Previews. |
| Facebook Music (non-content network) |
Your music is available as a licensed soundtrack for posts, stories, reels and videos on Facebook and Instagram – directly through the interface of these apps. In the Distribution table in the release detail, you will find this platform under the name Instagram Music. |
| Facebook Fingerprinting (content network) |
A rights protection system – it automatically recognises your music in content by other users who have added it to a video manually or had it playing in the background while recording. It works like YouTube Content ID, only for Facebook, Instagram and Threads. |
TikTok and Facebook Fingerprinting are both switched off by default on a new account. You can enable TikTok yourself in Artists Bez Labelu → Requests with the TikTok access request: In it, you confirm a binding declaration that you do not and will not use AI in your music. Once approved, TikTok will appear among the platforms in the detail of every release. We enable Facebook Fingerprinting on request – write to support and send a sworn statement. This is only possible for accounts without AI-generated music and without music beats from the internet. The article Why we do not make all features available explains why these platforms are not available straight away.
Restrictions – what cannot go to these platforms
TikTok and Facebook Fingerprinting are both content platforms – and strict rules on content originality apply to them.
TikTok is completely closed to AI-generated music – not only as a content platform, but for distribution altogether. Because TikTok does not separate music distribution from the content identification system, AI music cannot be distributed to TikTok in any other way either. More in the article AI music is not allowed on TikTok.
In addition, only original recordings with exclusive rights may enter the Facebook Fingerprinting system. Music beats from the internet and AI-generated content are not eligible – just as with YouTube Content ID.
When and whether the music will appear
Even when distribution to these platforms has been sent successfully, appearance is not guaranteed – and unlike Spotify or Apple Music, there is no fixed time frame here. Sometimes it’s enough to wait, other times the music does not appear at all and not even the platforms themselves state the reason explicitly.
If your music is not visible on TikTok or in the Meta environment several weeks after distribution (or rather after its scheduled publication on these platforms), submit a Distribution status request in Artists Bez Labelu → Requests – we will check the status on our side.
