WAV
Also known as: WAV fileWAVEuncompressed audio
The uncompressed audio format used to upload recordings for distribution – at least 16-bit / 44.1 kHz, never MP3.
24-bit / 48 kHz is recommended, 32-bit / 96 kHz at most. The file must be a real WAV – renaming an MP3 to .wav does not help. Faulty metadata in the file (such as an invalid date) can be removed with the WAV metadata cleaner.
Not to be confused with
- MP3 – A lossy compressed audio format. Not suitable for distribution – platforms need uncompressed WAV.
