Distributor
Also known as: digital distributormusic distributor
The company that delivers music to platforms and collects and pays out royalties. For Bez Labelu clients it is Bez Labelu.
A distributor has contracts and technical connections with the platforms and is responsible to them for the delivered content. The artist or label signs an agreement with the distributor and grants it a licence to distribute the recordings.
A distributor is not a record label: It does not finance recording or promotion and does not acquire rights in the recordings, only a licence to distribute them.
Not to be confused with
- Record label – A company that finances, releases and promotes artists' recordings and usually owns them or holds an exclusive licence to them.
- Music publisher – A company that manages and commercially exploits the copyright in a work (song), not in a recording.
