Tracking licence limits for your tracks
Licences for beats and instrumentals often have limits – such as a number of streams or a term. When you upload a licence to a track, we track the usage for you. You will see how much is used up and we will warn you before the end.
How it works
- Limits from the licence: We read the limits from the uploaded licence (PDF) automatically and then check them by hand. Until we do, they carry a “machine-detected” label.
- What we track: Streams on streaming platforms, video views on YouTube, sales and downloads, and the licence term. Other conditions (such as live performance or radio) are shown for reference only.
- Where the numbers come from: From your royalty statements – and since statements arrive with a delay, we add an estimate from the daily stats for the days not covered by a statement yet.
- Social media doesn’t count as streams: Use on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and in YouTube Shorts isn’t counted towards streams.
Overview and alerts
- Licences menu: It appears in Artists as soon as you upload a licence to any track. For each track you see what percentage of the limit is used up and the progress by statement month.
- Email from 85%: We send it at 85, 90, 95 and 99% so you can get a higher licence in time.
- Task at 100%: You get a task: Upload a new (higher) licence, or remove the release with the track from distribution. While the task is open, you can’t send the release to distribution again.
Limit doesn’t match?
In the Licences menu, click Is something wrong? next to the track and tell us what doesn’t match (a different number, a missing limit, an unlimited licence …). We will look into it and fix the limit.
Frequently asked questions
I can’t see the Licences menu.
It appears as soon as you upload a licence for an instrumental to any track. Without an uploaded licence there is nothing to track.
How do I upload a new licence for a released track?
In the task via I’m done → I have a licence for the track, or send it to us by email. We will go through the new licence and its limits will replace the old ones.
Can I rely on the tracking?
It is a helper – you are responsible for keeping to the licence. Statement figures arrive with a delay, so get a higher licence with some headroom.
