True peak
Also known as: dBTPtrue peak levelinter-sample peak
The highest signal level including peaks between samples, measured in dBTP. For distribution, at most −1 dBTP is recommended.
When a platform turns up a quiet recording during normalisation, a high true peak may exceed the maximum and the recording will distort. That is why true peak matters more than a specific LUFS value.
Not to be confused with
- LUFS – A unit of perceived loudness (Loudness Units relative to Full Scale). Platforms normalise loudness by it.
