Also known as: master ownerphonogram producerrecord producer (legal sense)
The person or company who first makes a recording on their own responsibility – usually whoever initiated and paid for it. They own the rights in the master.
When you release your own music, you are most often the producer of the sound recording yourself. The producer grants the distributor a licence to the recording and is named in the P-line. Not to be confused with a music producer who shapes the recording creatively.
Not to be confused with
- Music producer – The person who leads the creative side of making a recording – sound, arrangement, work with the artist; with beats often also the music author.
- Music publisher – A company that manages and commercially exploits the copyright in a work (song), not in a recording.
