Explicit
Also known as: explicit contentexplicit lyrics
A label for a recording with profanity or content unsuitable for children; platforms show it with an E badge.
For each recording you choose Not Explicit, Explicit or Clean. The label applies to the recording, not the release, and choosing wrongly can lead to removal from the platforms. Clean does not mean “inoffensive” but a cleaned-up version of an otherwise explicit recording.
Not to be confused with
- Clean version – An edited version of an explicit recording without profanity – a separate recording with its own ISRC.
- Parental Advisory – The “Parental Advisory – Explicit Content” warning logo on the artwork of a release with explicit content.
